“I realised that as little as five minutes of my time can really impact someones day and mood”

Leeds Written by local resident, Alex

Every morning I take my dog for a walk (usually in a rush) before heading to work. Walking on the valley close to my home, it’s usually filled with morning dog walkers having a chat with friends. Walking my usual route on Wednesday morning, I noticed an older woman walking on her own with her dog. Having seen the #OurNeighbours campaign, it was in the back of my mind to make more of an effort to converse with the people around me. Although I knew I had to commute to work, I decided to not let this rush me and I let our dogs meet, using this way to start a conversation.

She was smiling through the whole conversation and ended the chat with “lovely to speak to you this morning.” I realised that as little as five minutes of my time can really impact someones day and mood.
